The chair is responsible for the “Management Control & Strategy Execution” specialization in the Master’s program in Management and Economics. This specialization combines the fields of management control (establishing and continuously adapting control systems to achieve objectives) and strategy execution (translating strategic planning into effective operational action). The goal is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of

• the functions and design principles of an integrated management control system,
• the process steps and success factors of effective strategy execution frameworks (e.g., the Balanced Scorecard) and management control tools,
• the interactions between management tools (e.g., compensation systems, corporate culture) and strategic goals,
• as well as the context-dependent design of management control and strategy execution based on company characteristics (e.g., technology, strategy, life cycle stage).

We achieve this through lectures, discussions of current academic articles, and the independent analysis, presentation, and discussion of case studies, which foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Presentations by professionals in controlling and strategy execution from renowned companies and consulting firms additionally provide deep insights into operational design and implementation and complement the theoretical foundations.

The goal of this specialization is both to prepare students for a successful start to their careers and to provide them with advanced academic qualifications (up to the doctoral level). Students acquire in-depth methodological and conceptual knowledge in the areas of KPI design and budgeting, the Balanced Scorecard and OKRs, incentive and compensation systems, as well as data and AI governance. Practical case studies, projects with corporate partners, empirical analyses, and reflective discussions simultaneously sharpen students’ analytical skills, decision-making abilities, storytelling, and presentation skills.
