In the upcoming summer semester, the Chair of Management Control will offer a seminar in the Masterlinie “Sustainability Management and Reporting” and in the Masterlinie “Accounting and Finance”, as well as for the BWL-Schwerpunkt “Management Control and Strategy Execution” in the Masterlinie “Management and Economics” with the following title:

Designing Executive Compensation: Why is Pay at the Top so Hard to get Right?”

Multi-million dollar paychecks often spark controversy, yet public debate rarely captures the complex reality behind the headline numbers. Compensation is a primary instrument for aligning the incentives and influencing the behavior of executives, influencing the decisions that they make and, ultimately, how they create value. In this seminar, organized in cooperation with market-leading consulting firm Mercer, we look past the surface to explore the fundamental challenges and design choices that define modern executive incentives. In doing so, students will engage with current research and study actual executive compensation data to determine what actually works to effectively incentivize executives.

    Learning Targets:

    Nach erfolgreichem Beenden dieser Veranstaltung sind die Studierenden in der Lage:

    • aktuelle Themen aus dem Bereich Management Control and Strategy Execution zu diskutieren,
    • ein vorgegebenes Thema selbstständig zu erarbeiten und Ergebnisse aus der Forschung kritisch zu hinterfragen,
    • die analytischen, formalen und methodischen Techniken wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens anzuwenden und somit unter anderem auf die bevorstehende Masterarbeit vorbereitet zu werden sowie
    • je nach Thema: Ergebnisse aus der Forschung mit vorgebeben Datensätzen zu replizieren und
    • Präsentationstechniken anzuwenden und ihre Kommunikationsfähigkeiten zu verbessern.
