The German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) is funding the research project “AIforAdaptation,” led by Prof. Dr. Sebastian Firk, as part of its “Future Finance” funding initiative.

The project aims to make it easier to finance and implement municipal climate adaptation measures. To this end, it will develop a scientifically grounded monetization framework for systematically translating the economic and societal benefits of climate adaptation measures into monetary values. This framework will then be built into an AI-supported assessment platform that helps municipalities compare different climate adaptation measures and make well-founded investment decisions.

The joint project is carried out by the University of Duisburg-Essen and the University of Hamburg and is coordinated by Prof. Firk. It starts in November 2026, runs for three years, and receives total funding of around €790,000 from the BMFTR.

Climate adaptation managers from the cities of Duisburg, Mülheim an der Ruhr, and Oberhausen, the Hamburg-Mitte District Office, and the Düsseldorf District Government are closely involved in the project. The Hamburger Klimaschutzstiftung (Hamburg Climate Protection Foundation), the Alfred Toepfer Stiftung, and the Bürgerstiftung Hamburg support the project as civil society practice partners. In addition, the University of Hamburg’s Hub of Computing and Data Science contributes its technical expertise to developing the AI-supported assessment platform.

Dieser Frage geht die neue Studie von Sebastian Firk und seinen Co-Autoren Jan Christoph Hennig (University of Groningen), Joseph Harrison (University of Tennessee), Hauke Meyer (Strategy&) und Michael Wolff (Universität Göttingen) nach.

Die Arbeit mit dem Titel „The Price of Prominence: How CEO Extraversion Influences Board Attributions and the Dismissal-Performance Sensitivity” wurde im Journal of Management Studies veröffentlicht.
